On May 17, The Family Tree joined organizations throughout the world in celebrating the International Day Against Homophobia. The theme of this year’s annual event focused on “homophobia in the sports world.” According to a news release, “the sports world needs to join in society’s progress, put an end to the silence on LGBT issues, and get involved in the fight against homophobia.”
The International Day Against Homophobia began in Quebec, Canada, in 2003. With the help of partners, the event has expanded to reach France, Belgium, the United States and other countries from all over the world.
The Family Tree participated in the event by displaying a banner on our website. Additionally, the back cover of last month’s issue of Branching Out was dedicated to this event.
